How to Improve Our Mental Health?
Most of us don’t have a clear idea about the term “Mental Health”. We consider “health” as our physical existence. All internal and external parts of the human body are considered as health. But “Mental Health” means a state of mind that helps people to handle and adjust to stress. We all should give enough time and priority to our mental health improvement.
Have you ever thought of adding some good habits to your daily routine? What about adopting some new healthy habits for your mental well-being? Here are 5 healthy habits to improve your mental health.
1. Adopting an Upright Posture
It's time to stretch those muscles out with sincerity.
According to research published in the Journal of Behavior Therapy and
Experimental Psychiatry, an upright posture can help to lessen weariness.
According to early research findings, people with depression can benefit more
by maintaining an upright posture. Are you currently maintaining your upright
posture while on your phone or computer? How does that position look?
2. Practice Positive Thinking
Research has shown that how you define yourself has a
significant influence on your behavior. The greatest method for changing any
negative thoughts is to replace them with good ones. Rather, work on talking in
a manner that helps you feel powerful and deserving of those emotions.
Psychologist Patricia Harteneck says: If we see
ourselves and our situation negatively,
we might interpret things in a way that supports that view.
So instead of saying, “I was horrible at my math test”,
use positive words and self-compassion like, “I will study harder next time
then I will do better on the next test."
This is my favorite. Nature! Is there anything better
than walking on green lawns with the sky blue above you? Is the warm sun
burning your nose?
According to studies published in the Journal of
Positive Psychology, a simple walk in nature can improve your mental health. A
study published in Canada in 2019, they discovered that just
five minutes of engagement with nature boosts your wellness, confidence, and
overall emotional well-being.
4. Keep a Gratitude Journal
The benefits of gratitude for our mental health are
enormous. Gratitude increases happiness and improves our mental health. Patricia Harteneck
said that the best way to increase feelings of gratitude is to
keep a gratitude journal or write a daily gratitude list. It means, every
morning, write down something you are thankful for, no matter how grand or
simple. And at the end of the day, when you are ready to go to bed for eight
hours of sleep, write down a few more things you appreciate before you hit the
sheets.
Exercise is not only important for our physical health
but our mental wellbeing as well. Regular exercise releases endorphins which
make us happy naturally. According to an article by the Mayo Clinic, “Exercising
can increase your feeling of happiness by releasing good endorphins.”
Practicing good habits can bring you success and
happiness. If you start practicing two or three good habits within these five,
gradually, you will be able to keep your mental health good and energetic.
It's not always hard to
look after our mental health. Sometimes it's tuff to understand where to begin.
You have to remember that the type of mental well-being is not the same always.
It depends on your willpower, dedication, and energy. Good mental health does
not mean happiness always. So, appreciate your effort and enjoy your well-being.
